Additional cardholders

Aussie gives you the option to add 1 additional credit card cardholder to your account. This person must be over 16 years of age. The same credit limit is shared across both credit cards and the annual fee is just $10 for the additional card. As the primary cardholder, you're responsible for all transactions made on your credit card and on the additional card. So make sure you only provide cards to people that you trust.

Be aware, because your credit limit does not change, you'll also need to keep on top of the account to ensure you do not go over your limit. You can request an additional card at any time by completing the following two forms. (i) Additional Card Application Form, (ii) Certified Copies Identification Form.

Applications for finance are subject to credit approval. Full conditions of use will be included in our Letter of Offer. Fees and charges are payable. Credit services are provided by AHL Investments Pty Ltd (“AHL”) ABN 27 105 265 861, Australian credit licence 246786 and its appointed credit representatives. Making your monthly credit card payments

We'll send you a statement letting you know the minimum amount you have to pay. If your closing balance is less than $25, the minimum payment is the closing balance. Otherwise, the minimum payment is the greatest of:

  • the excess of the closing balance over the credit limit on your card account;
  • 2% of the closing balance (rounded down to the nearest dollar); and
  • $25.

The statement will also show you the full amount owing on your credit card (also known as the Closing Balance). To make your monthly payment you can use:

  • BPAY®
  • AutoPay

BPAY®

BPAY® is the easiest way to make a payment. Use it to transfer funds from your cheque or savings account at any time via the Internet or Telephone Access. The Aussie Classic Low Rate Credit Card Biller code is 413658. Your credit card number is your reference number.

AutoPay

AutoPay is a simple way to avoid paying late fees on your credit card by setting up automatic payments. With AutoPay, you'll never be late for a payment again. AutoPay is an automatic direct debit arrangement from your nominated savings or transaction account. Once you set it up, all your nominated payments are automatic. You can choose to:

  • Debit the minimum monthly payment - This way you can be sure you won't miss a payment but you can still make additional payments at any time.
  • Debit a fixed amount - So you know exactly what's coming out of your account each month.
  • Debit the total amount owing each month – to minimise interest charges.

Download and complete the AutoPay Direct Debit Request form and fax or post it to us. Call us on 1300 205 685 for more information or to make changes to your existing AutoPay.

Other things you should know about credit card payments

  • Late payment fee: This is a fee we apply if the minimum payment is not received by the payment due date. To avoid this fee, make sure your payment always arrives on time. You can avoid late payment fees by setting up AutoPay on your credit card to automatically pay the minimum amount, a set monthly amount or your full closing balance.
  • Up to 55 days interest free on purchases: Each monthly statement period runs for around 30 days. After your statement closes, you'll have approximately 25 days extra to pay the full balance before an interest charge applies. This make up your interest free period of 55 days. The actual number of interest free days you'll enjoy varies depending on when you make your purchase and the number of days remaining in your statement period.
  • We apply payments to your account are applied as follows:
    • To the last statement's closing balance starting with the transactions attracting the highest interest rate as at the statement date, and then proceeding to the transactions at the next lower rate, and so on, until the closing balance is paid in full; and
    • Repayable amounts from the current statement period.

Aussie Classic cardholders will be charged international transaction fees when transacting with an overseas merchant. Refer to fees and charges set out in Item G of the Schedule (the Schedule of Credit Card Particulars is sent to you when we approve your application).

Cash advance fees

A percentage fee or flat fee will be charged if you obtain a cash advance or if you make a cash equivalent or cash substitute transaction on your Aussie MasterCard®.

  • Over the counter within Australia: $4.00 or 2.00% of the cash advance amount (whichever is greater), up to a maximum of $150.001
  • ATM within Australia: 2.00% of the cash advance amount, up to a maximum of $150.001
  • Overseas terminal or bank: $4.00 or 2.00% of the cash advance amount (whichever is greater), up to a maximum of $150.001
  • Cash equivalent items or cash substitutes2: 2.00% of the cash advance amount, up to a maximum of $150.001

Note: ATM owners may charge a fee. The fee will be disclosed at the time of the transaction and if you proceed, will be debited to your account. Cash advance interest is charged from the date of withdrawal.

How to transfer a balance

To transfer a balance from another financial institution or store-issued credit card (excluding Aussie Classic and Platinum MasterCards) you can download and complete a Balance Transfer form and fax or post it to us.

You can transfer:

  • One balance when you first apply for an Aussie MasterCard®.
  • Whenever you like after the credit card is activated.
  • Up to a total of 100% of your available credit limit at the time of processing.

We’ll send you a confirmation letter once the balance transfer has been completed by us. The transfer will be shown on your Aussie MasterCard® statement and the statement of your other card. You should continue to make repayments on any amounts outstanding with other cards until we notify you of the transfer.

Balance transfer fees & limits

Aussie doesn't charge balance transfer transaction fees but you still have to pay the other normal fees and interest charges on your credit card account. We will only process balance transfer requests up to 100% of the available credit limit on your credit card. Check any automatic bill payments that you’ve set up, because if the payment and the transfer happen at the same time you could go over your limit. We may be able to increase your limit to cover the transfer amount, which you need to apply for.

Fees & charges

In addition to our low annual fee, there are a few additional credit card fees you need to be aware of. Most of these extra fees can be avoided—we’ll tell you how.

Standard variable interest rates

Purchase interest rate:12.49% p.a.

Cash advance interest rate: 20.99% p.a.

Fee

How to avoid it

Late payment fee: $25
If you don’t pay the “Minimum Monthly Payment” plus any amount "Payable Immediately” by the "Due Date" shown on the statement of account, you’ll be charged $25.

Pay the amount shown by the due date—check out the range of ways to pay your credit card account every month.

Cash advance fee
A 2% fee will be charged if you obtain a cash advance from your credit card account.1

  • If the account (based on transactions processed by us) is in credit balance at the time we process the cash advance, the credit amount will offset the amount of the cash advance in the calculation of the 2% fee. Minimum fee for Overseas ATM & Branch Cash Advances will apply.1
  • For cash advances made overseas at an ATM or a bank or financial institution, the 2% fee will be calculated with reference to the cash advance amount, any ATM operator fee plus any Overseas Transaction Fee charged on the transaction. A minimum fee of $4.00 applies to overseas cash advances.1
  • A minimum fee of $4.00 applies to cash advances made at a bank or other financial institution within Australia.1
  • Some ATMs and overseas EFTPOS locations may also impose a surcharge.

If you need to get a cash advance, this one is difficult to avoid. But if your account is in credit at the time your cash advance is processed, the fee will only apply to the amount of the cash advance that exceeds the credit balance and the minimum fee will apply.

Overseas Transaction fee: variable
3% the value of any foreign or Australian currency transaction charged to the Aussie MasterCard account where the ATM, merchant or financial institution accepting the card is located outside of Australia. 3

Unfortunately there’s no way to avoid this fee. The Aussie Platinum Low Rate Credit Card has no international transaction fees on purchases. To find out more click here.

Emergency Issue/Lost/Replacement fee: $50
If you request a priority issue of a credit card or an emergency replacement card you'll be charged $50.

If possible, wait a little. There’s no additional charge for the normal 2 to 5 day delivery time.

Additional Cardholder fee: $10
You have to pay an extra $10 per year for each additional cardholder on your account.

You can’t really avoid this one if you need to have additional cardholders, but it’s cheaper than getting a whole new credit card account.

For more info about the fees and charges download a copy of the Aussie MasterCard® Conditions of Use. If you have any questions, call us anytime on 1300 205 685.

1 A maximum charge of $150.00 (or a flat fee of $2.50 applies if your closing balance on the previous business day was in credit). Note: For cash advances and balance enquiries made through any ATM in Australia, the ATM owner may charge you a fee, which will be disclosed at the time of the transaction. If you proceed with the transaction, the ATM owner’s fee will be debited to your account (in addition to the cash advance amount) if applicable. You should check the ATM owner’s fees that apply carefully before completing.
2 Charge applies to purchases of cash equivalent items or cash substitutes including gambling transactions or traveller’s cheques.
3 Applies anytime cash advances, purchases or permitted transactions are converted by MasterCard from foreign currencies to Australian dollar equivalents. The fee includes the fees MasterCard impose on us. For cash advances the relevant cash advance charge will also apply.

You must tell us as soon as you become aware that your card is lost or stolen, you suspect that your PIN or password has become known to someone else, or there may be unauthorised use of your card.

There are different contact details depending on if you are in Australia or overseas. See below for full details.

Within Australia

  • Call us straight away on 1300 205 685, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • We will send you a replacement card, if required, within 7 working days. You will need to activate and create a PIN for this card before you can use it.

From Overseas

If you are overseas and your Aussie MasterCard® card, is lost or stolen:

  • Call MasterCard as soon as you can. If you are in the USA, call toll-free 1-800-MasterCard (1-800-627-8372). In any other country, call your local operator and place a reverse-charges call to +1 636 722 7111. Find out more, including a list of toll-free numbers around the world.
  • Alternatively, you can report a missing card at any financial institution which displays the MasterCard sign.
  • MasterCard will send you a replacement card if required, which you can use for up to 12 months while overseas. You will not be able to use this card for cash advances.
  • If you’re in a jam, MasterCard can arrange an emergency cash advance, but you should note that they will charge you interest.
  • When you get back to Australia, you will need to notify us if you lost and/or cancelled your credit card. We will send a replacement Aussie card to your home address.

Other Important information about card security:

  • If there is an additional cardholder on your account, we will also need to replace their card, so please make sure they destroy their existing card.
  • If you find your card again after reporting it lost or stolen, you should still destroy it along with any additional cards.
  • You could be liable for losses if you do not protect your PIN and passwords, or notify us immediately of an issue.

Card safety and security

We have lots of technology and processes in place to protect your credit card from fraud. We'll call you if we spot any suspicious use on your card, but there are a few precautions you can take as well.

Protect your credit card information

When you receive your credit card, immediately sign the strip on the back. Don't let anyone else use your credit card. When it expires, cut it in half.

Protect your PIN

  • Memorise your PIN (Personal Identification Number).
  • Don't keep a reminder of it in your wallet along with your credit card.
  • Don't let anyone else know your PIN – even family and friends.
  • Don't let anyone else see your PIN when you enter it into an ATM or any other electronic terminal.
  • Don't write your PIN on your credit card, even if you try to disguise it.

Take care while shopping online

Deal only with reputable sites. Anyone can establish an internet site, so if you're unsure, request more information about the company and ask about its return and refund policy. Look for the padlock symbol at the bottom of your internet window. It means the site is encrypted – making it difficult for another person to intercept the information you send over the internet.

Keep an eye on your credit card

When paying for things, particularly when overseas, try not to leave your credit card out of sight. Make sure when you make purchases the credit card is given back to you, always check the amount you are signing for when making a purchase, and ensure your credit card isn't scanned twice.

Don't reveal your credit card details

Never give out your credit card details to anyone unless you are sure they are legitimate, even if contacted by someone claiming to be from Aussie.

Check your statements and account balance online

Regularly check your balance online or over the phone and review your monthly credit card statement carefully. If there are any suspicious transactions, call 1300 205 685 immediately. If you notify us of the suspicious transaction - and the transaction is found not to be yours - then you won't be liable for the payment. Remember, sometimes the name of the store which appears on the statement is different from the store's trading name under, for example Joe Smith may trade as Acme Interiors.

Keep a record of your purchases

You should always get a printed transaction record in a bricks-and-mortar store, so make sure you print out your receipts when you shop online as well. A full set of records makes it much easier to check your credit card statement and ensure that all the purchases have been authorised by you or an additional card holder.

Store it safely

Try not to bend your credit card. Keep it away from magnetised objects (like your work security access pass or other credit cards) and loose change, or it may become deactivated. Store your credit card in a place where it's not rubbing or scratching against another object - a separate compartment in your wallet is usually fine. If your credit card stops working, call 1300 205 685 to order a replacement.

Dispute a Transaction

If you find a transaction on a statement or ATM receipt that you doubt is correct there are a few things you can do:

  • Check the date of the transaction to see if you are able to relate the purchase to something you bought on the same day. Sometimes companies have a different trading name to the billing name that appears.
  • If there is another card holder on the account check if they made the purchase.
  • If the amount seems incorrect, check your purchase receipt. If the amount is different it could be as a result of the exchange rate on an international transaction or a surcharge applied by the store/merchant.
  • If you’ve checked everything, and you still can’t work out the transaction, notify us straight away and we’ll do our best to investigate.

We may be able to help you by investigating:

  • Transactions you do not recognise
  • Transactions you did not authorise
  • Transactions that you may suspect are fraudulent
  • Goods and services which were not received
  • Transactions where the payment amount differs
  • Goods which are not as described
  • Duplicated transactions
  • Recurring debits which were cancelled
  • Goods which are defective
  • ATMs that have given you an incorrect amount of money
  • Arranging a chargeback for certain Credit Card transactions

Chargebacks for Credit Card transactions

In some circumstances when you make a purchase using your Credit Card, we can dispute a credit transaction for you from the merchant’s financial institution. This is called a chargeback. Usually, we can only do this after you have tried to get a refund from the merchant and were unsuccessful.

If you believe an error or unauthorised transaction occurred, please notify us straight away. To request a chargeback, tell us you want to chargeback the transaction within 30 days of the date of the statement which shows the transaction and provide us with any information we ask for to support your request.

If you don’t follow these steps, it may limit our ability to resolve your complaint or claim a chargeback for you, and you may still be liable for the transaction. Simply call 1300 205 685, Or download the dispute form and send it to us. MasterCard is a registered trademark of MasterCard International Incorporated.

MasterCard® Zero Liability gives you the peace of mind of free protection against fraudulent transactions made with your card. As a MasterCard cardholder, you are automatically covered by the Zero Liability policy for unauthorised transactions made using your card, in stores, online or over the phone.

Overseas Transaction fee: 0%3
There are no international transaction fees on purchases made with the Aussie Platinum Low Rate Credit Card.

3 Cash advances through overseas terminals or banks incur a cash advance fee.

Lost or stolen cards

Please report a lost or stolen credit card, as soon as possible on 1300 205 685 so that we can block all transactions on your credit card account. If you're in the USA, the number to call is 1 800 627 8372. From any other country we recommend customers contact the local telephone operator and request a reverse charge/collect call to the USA and quote +1 636 722 7111.

We'll send you a replacement credit card as soon as possible.

Other things you should know about credit card payments

  • If you have balances on your account earning different interest amounts, then the balance earning the lowest interest will be paid off first by any payments made. So if you are on a promotional interest rate of 2.99% p.a. for example, but you've also bought things on our standard low rate of 13.29% p.a., the promotional amount will be paid off first.
  • If you are late with a monthly payment then you will be charged a fee of $25.
  • If you spend more than your credit limit you'll be charged $25. You'll only be charged this fee once per month, regardless of how many times you go over the limit.
  • Your up-to-55 day interest free period is based on your statement and payment cycles. Basically, you get a statement every 30 days and have 25 days to pay that statement. If you paid your previous statement balance in full by the due date and you make a purchase on the first day of the next cycle, you have 55 interest-free days on that purchase.
Aussie credit cards are provided under agreement by Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited ABN 11 005 357 522, Australian Credit Licence Number 234527.

Cash withdrawal charges

A 2% fee will be charged if you obtain a cash advance from your credit card account.

  • For cash advances made overseas at an ATM or a bank or financial institution, the 2% fee will be calculated with reference to the cash advance amount, any ATM operator fee plus any Overseas Transaction Fee charged on the transaction. A minimum fee of $4.00 applies to overseas cash advances.
  • Minimum fee of $4.00 applies to cash advances made at a bank or other financial institution within Australia.
  • Some ATMs and overseas EFTPOS locations may also impose a surcharge.

Some ATMs and overseas EFTPOS locations may also impose a surcharge.

If a cash advance is made in a foreign currency, the Cash Advance Fee will apply to the cash advance and the Overseas Transaction Fee.

Interest may be charged from the date of the withdrawal.

We will only process balance transfer requests up to 95% of the available credit limit on your credit card.

We may be able to increase your limit to cover the transfer amount, which you need to apply for.

Only valid for balance transfers from non-Aussie credit cards. Interest accrues on balance transfers from the date the transfer is processed by us. Terms and conditions apply to balance transfers. For a copy of the terms and conditions please call 1300 660 841. From date of card approval. Only valid for balance transfers from non-Aussie credit and store cards.
