You can apply for an Aussie MasterCard® if you are over 18 years old, an Australian resident and earn more than $15,000 a year.

To complete your application you’ll need:

• A drivers licence, if you have one.
• Your employer’s address and contact number, or if you are self employed, your accountant’s name and contact number.
• Details of your income and assets - such as your home and car.
• Details of your liabilities such as other loans, current credit card debts and HECS debts.

Getting your Aussie credit card

Before we approve your application, we check your financial history with a Credit Reporting Agency. We’ll write to you to let you know whether or not your application has been approved.

If your application is approved, we may need to do an identity check before we send you your new card. This generally requires you to visit a post office with a few pieces of ID and a form that we send you.

You might also need to provide proof of employment or proof of residence. We’ll give you a call if we need this information.

Once we’ve received your ID forms, we’ll send you your card, usually within 3 to 5 working days. We’ll also send you your Personal Identification Number (PIN), separately.

The whole process usually takes 5 to 7 working days from the time we receive your application.

The identification form

The government requires us to confirm your identity using the Aussie MasterCard Identity Verification Form. If we need to do this check we send you a letter letting you know what to do.

Generally it means you have to walk into a post office with a couple of pieces of ID, like a passport and drivers licence, and the ID verification form we send to you.

Australia Post employees simply confirm that they’ve seen the original ID documents.
