We spoke to the branch principal, Reg McGlashan, about Aussie Port Macquarie's experience and commitment to the local community.

What are the best things about Port Macquarie?

According to the CSIRO, we have the world's best climate for human habitation – and you can’t get better than that in my opinion!

Port Macquarie is also one of the fastest growing areas in Australia, experiencing rapid development in housing and huge population growth. But surprisingly, we have not lost our friendly community feel or relaxed atmosphere, and we're proud of that. I've been here for over 23 years, which says a lot about my love for this place.

What is your background?

I have more than 45 years experience in the financial industry – 18 years with a bank, five years in finance in Newcastle, 17 years as a finance broker in Port Macquarie, and then I joined Wizard Home Loans in January 1998 until early 2009 when Aussie took over Wizard.

What do you bring to your customers?

At Port Macquarie we provide good 'old fashioned' friendly service: we get people into their homes and give them the best financial outcome. It's pretty simple.

We are very dedicated to our customers and aim to place them in the best financial position possible. We always give our customers the full picture, and they're very grateful for this.

Some of our customers come to us out of frustration with the banks. They want to speak to real people, and that's what they get at Aussie Port Macquarie. They also want to be treated as a real person, not as a bank number.

In addition, we're mobile – this means we meet customers at times convenient for them, including weekends. And that's part of the beauty of Aussie – we're not a nine to five, five days a week business.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

I enjoy interacting with, and satisfying my customers by providing the best possible financial solutions. My reward for this is seeing the smiles on their faces on the day they settle their loan.

What does Aussie Port Macquarie bring to the community?

Aussie Port Macquarie is extremely community-orientated, and we sponsor a number of local sporting teams including the Port Macquarie Sharks Football Club, Port Macquarie Dolphins Basketball team, the Prestige Pairs Bowling Tournament at Port City Bowling Club, Port Macquarie Magpies AFL Club, Port Macquarie Breakers Junior Rugby League Football Club and the Port Macquarie Bodyboarding Club.

In addition to the sponsorships, we are involved in numerous community groups. I am President of the Port Macquarie Walrus Winter Swimming Club and a member of the Port Macquarie Masters Swimming Club. And for the past nine years, I've volunteered as a skipper with Port Macquarie Sea Rescue and have been involved in several major rescues. It's a very rewarding job.
