How to make a claim on your home insurance

If an event occurs where you need to make a claim, follow this simple checklist:

  1. Do what you can to prevent any further loss, damage, cost or liability
  2. Tell the police immediately if the claim involves theft, attempted theft, malicious acts, civil unrest or impact by a vehicle and get an event number

Proof of ownership

When you make a claim under your home and contents insurance for loss or damage to an item, Aussie Insurance will require proof that you owned the item and of its value, otherwise your claim may not be paid. The easiest way to keep records for your home and contents insurance is by keeping receipts, manuals and warranties for any items you purchase. If you cannot find any of these, you can for example, take detailed photographs of your property and get valuations from an Australian registered valuer of your jewellery, art and other valuables.
