Home Insurance - Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum sum insured for Aussie Insurance home and contents insurance policies?
For Aussie Insurance Home and Contents insurance products the minimum sums insured are as follows:
- Home – $120,000
- Contents - $20,000
My current insurer offers me an “unlimited” building sum insured, why doesn't Aussie Insurance?
By choosing your own sum insured for your home and contents insurance, you have peace of mind, knowing that amount may be available to you if you suffer a total loss of your home. Aussie Insurance is able to offer you a premium for your home insurance that is based on the replacement cost of your home. There is no advantage in being over-insured or paying a higher premium to be over-insured.
How do I know how much I should insure my home for?
We can only provide general advice about your home and contents insurance; we can't provide you with advice around the replacement cost of your home. The sum insured for your home insurance should include the rebuild cost of your home, not including land value, but including allowances for the clearance of debris from the land in the event of a total loss. If you are unsure of the replacement cost, you can consult a builder or architect and they should be able to assist you.
What should I do if I move?
If you move, you need to contact Aussie Insurance’s friendly service team on 1300 73 26 44 to advise them about your change of details. You will need the following information handy:
- The date you are moving address
- Your new address
- The age of your new home and its construction and security details
Because Aussie Insurance's premiums are based on your location, as well as the specific details of your house, your premium may change when you move address.
Does Aussie Insurance cover accidental damage?
Accidental damage forms part of the Aussie’s Top Home and Contents Insurance. So, if you were to spill paint on your carpet or break a chair accidentally, you would be covered.
While Aussie’s Essential Home and Contents insurance does not cover you for accidental damage, it does cover you for accidental glass breakage. This would cover you for accidental damage to items like shower screens and mirrors.
What payment options do you have?
With home insurance, you have the option to pay for your policy annually, or pay by the month at no extra charge. You can pay for your policy using MasterCard, Visa or use a savings account. There are no payment forms to fill in, you can provide your details online or over the phone when you take out your policy.
