James Symond - Chief Executive Officer of Aussie
James Symond is Chief Executive Officer of Aussie, and one of the most influential figures in the Australian mortgage broking industry. With Aussie since its inception, James was instrumental in taking Aussie from a small start-up in 1992 alongside his uncle John Symond, to Australia’s leading mortgage broker.
Aged just 19, James spent his first year with Aussie as a credit officer before becoming a loan consultant. In 1994 he moved into sales where he rose through the ranks to lead the national sales team in various roles, before becoming CEO in 2015.
For over two decades, James led the diversification and growth of Aussie’s distribution channels, as the business evolved from a single home loan provider to the country’s top mortgage broker. He drove the establishment and expansion of Aussie’s retail channel and the overall growth of its broker network. Today, Aussie boasts more than 220 stores and over 1,000 mortgage brokers who help tens of thousands of customers find the right home loan every year.
James is a recognised and respected leader across the mortgage broking industry, and from 2007 to 2009 was President of the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia (MFAA). James made sure all Aussie Brokers became members of the MFAA; a move that led others in the industry to follow suit, raising the professional standards.
James also introduced the tracking of broker market share; an important statistic that continues to be used to demonstrate the success and growth of the industry. Today, over 55 per cent of all home loans in the country are arranged through a mortgage broker.
As a result of his contribution to the industry, in 2010 James was awarded a prestigious MFAA fellowship and more recently in 2018, MFAA Life Member.
