For the first time in its 27 year history, Australia’s leading mortgage broker Aussie Home Loans recruited more female mortgage brokers into its thriving retail channel than males.
During the 2019 financial year, 51 per cent of new Aussie retail loan writers and franchisees were women.
General Manager People & Culture for Aussie, Ms Lynda Harris, said “We have been working towards a closer gender balance for some time, and it’s really gratifying to see the numbers reflecting our efforts with record levels of female brokers joining our team over the last 12 months.
“We’re proud to be bucking the trend in the industry, but we’re also well aware more needs to be done so we can not only continue to attract the right women to mortgage broking, but keep, support and enable them so they start, grow and lead successful businesses,” she added.
Ms Harris said that mortgage broking is flexible because it allows people to own and build a business while still managing the other requirements in their lives.
“We have some incredible female brokers at Aussie, from highly successful mobile brokers like Valerie Francisco, who was our top female mobile broker in FY19, to our franchisees like Belinda Woodley in South Australia, who is leading a multi-store and multi-award winning team.
“Recruiting more women into the Aussie team is a trend we’re determined to continue, and I strongly encourage any women looking for a financially and emotionally rewarding business opportunity to give us a call.
“Mortgage brokers are already settling almost 60% of all residential home loans and this number is expected to surge to 75% in the next five years, so now’s a great time to join the industry and Australia’s top mortgage brokerage,” Ms Harris concluded.
