Aussie Home Loans in Perth has launched a major community fundraising effort to support Australia's Biggest Morning Tea on May 28 – an annual national event founded to support Australians battling cancer.

The team from Aussie believe their fundraiser will be one of the largest of its kind in Perth, with dozens of local businesses pledging support and donations.

The event is being coordinated by Aussie Broker Antoinette Ashworth, who was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in 2013.

Antoinette said that now she was back at work, she and her colleagues wanted to do something to give back to the doctors, nurses, family and friends who helped her through her treatment.

“Programs run by the Cancer Council were invaluable in helping me get through the treatment and getting back to work. Most people will know someone who has experienced cancer, so this is a chance for friends, family and workmates to come together, share a cuppa and help those affected by cancer. We want to give back to those who supported me when I needed them the most,” Ms Ashworth said.

“After receiving radiation I attended the Genesis Cancer Care centre in Joondalup, where the staff treated me with so much compassion. I also participated in a lot of activities, such as yoga and nutritional seminars. These were all covered by the Cancer Council, which relies on donations.

“The care I received has helped me get back to work. The great thing about being an Aussie Broker means I can work from home and rest on days when I don’t feel great after treatment,” she added.

Antoinette said local restaurants and cafes had donated food for the event and she was seeking donations for raffles to raise funds. Several Aussie brokers and her friends will bake cakes for sale.

"Australia's Biggest Morning tea is a great way to raise funds for people needing cancer support and to also help fund ground-breaking research," Ms Ashworth said.

Since its inception in 1994, the event has raised $121 million dollars for cancer research, prevention, early detection, treatment and support services. The Cancer Council aims to raise $13 million this year to help fund its life-changing work.

The official date for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is Thursday May 28 but morning teas can be held to help the cause throughout May or June.

The Aussie Home Loans' Biggest Morning Tea event will be held at Level 2, 327 Cambridge Street, Wembley on Thursday, 28 May 2015 between 10am and 1pm.
