A new report compiled by Aussie Home Loans and CoreLogic RP Data has identified the north of Canberra and Queanbeyan regions as having the most affordable houses within 20 kilometres of Canberra’s CBD.
Charnwood came out on top of the most affordable houses with a median house value of $396,000, while the most affordable houses within 10 kilometres of Canberra’s CBD are located in Page where the typical house price is $462,000.
Meanwhile the most affordable suburbs for apartments within 20 kilometres of Canberra’s CBD are Crestwood and Queanbeyan East, with median unit values of $239,000 and $253,000 respectively.
Hughes, with a median value of $286,000, is the most affordable suburb for units within 10 kilometres of the city.

Founder and Executive Chairman of Aussie, Mr John Symond, said “Canberra posted a modest rise of 2.4 per cent growth in dwelling prices over the last year and I would expect this rate of growth to pick up over the next 12 months.
“There is money available for home lending, interest rates remain low and owner occupiers can still borrow up to 95 per cent of a property’s value. Our report provides a map of where the most affordable property is located, so these suburbs are a good place to start for anyone looking to buy on a budget,” he added.
