Aussie Victoria Park mortgage broker Brad Scott is training to represent Australia at the 2016 Summer Paralympic games in Rio de Janeiro Brazil after winning silver at the World Athletic Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The middle distance runner won silver for the 1,500 metres but considers that a trial run for his main effort to represent Australia at the 2016 Paralympics.

The 27 year old athlete from Bunbury took up running in 2006, won silver in the men’s 800 metres in Beijing in 2008 in front of 90,000 people and a silver and bronze at London in 2012.

Brad, who trained as a mortgage broker in September 2014, balances his daily athletics training schedule while working at Aussie Victoria Park alongside owners Shaun Brodison and Jay Drummond.

Mr Scott, who was born with cerebral palsy, said he entered broking when he realised he would need a career beyond running and that he was attracted to Aussie because of its business model and products.

Brad said, “There are a lot of similarities between mortgage broking and competing in athletics. They are both similar in that you get back exactly what you put in. You can really only succeed if you have built a solid foundation in your training and have a really good support team behind you.

“I can see broking will also give me a life after sport. Right now, the best thing about being a broker with Aussie is that it gives me the support and flexibility to train for the paralympics while also being able to work as part of a dedicated team of professionals,” Brad explained.

“I’m fortunate to work with two great brokers and have learnt a lot over the past year seeing how they handle day-to-day business. They have given me a lot of confidence and mentoring and the support from head office has been incredible – they really look after you, and that’s one of the great traits of Aussie.”

“One of the most rewarding things is meeting so many great people and having the opportunity to help them to also achieve their dreams, like I have been doing through athletics,” he said.

Aussie CEO, James Symond, said “Aussie is always looking for motivated, dynamic and committed individuals like Brad as we expand our network nationally. Sports people are a great fit culturally for Aussie as they bring commitment, passion and dedication to our customers, like they have in their sporting careers.”
