With the start of the football season less than two weeks away, Aussie Hervey Bay has once again teamed up with 103.5 MIX FM to raise money for local charities.
The Aussie Hervey Bay MIX FM Charity Footy Punting Challenge kicks off on Friday 6 March 2015 and runs for the 30 weeks of footy season.
Aussie Hervey Bay is encouraging MIX FM listeners and its own customers to nominate the local charity they think deserves the prize money through the Aussie Hervey Bay Facebook page, the MIX FM Fraser Coast website or by calling Aussie Hervey Bay direct.
The highly successful initiative launched in 2012 has raised thousands of dollars for worthy causes, including the Mater hospital’s Chick’s in Pink, the Burrum District Community Centre’s flood relief and the Fraser Coast Make A Wish Foundation.
Aussie Hervey Bay Franchisee Peter Thomas will donate $40 every week for the 30 weeks. Each week the money is divided equally among four punters in a football betting pool, including a MIX FM listener who nominates a charity, 103.5 MIX FM breakfast announcers Scott Gilmore and Andrew Bland and Peter.
Each week the participants place a bet on an NRL or AFL game and the winnings are pooled. At the end of the season, one charity or sporting organisation is selected from the nominations and is invited to place the last $40 bet on the outcome of the NRL grand final. If successful, the grand final winnings are added to the pool and all winnings are donated to the charity.
Aussie Hervey Bay franchisee Peter Thomas said the event was a fun way for locals to follow the NRL season together, while helping a worthy local charity at the same time.
“Our role at Aussie is to help members of the local community get a better deal on their home loan. We think it is important to give back and also have a bit of fun and engage with the community while helping some of our local charities who do a great job,” Mr Thomas said.
