Former star football player, Joel Griffiths, has now qualified as a mortgage broker and franchise principal with Australia’s leading mortgage broker, Aussie Home Loans.
Joel and wife Bianca have established an Aussie store at The Junction in Newcastle (200 Union St), with Joel’s old school, friend Jeff Sawtell as the third mortgage broker in their store.
The 35 year old football star has made the transition to Aussie after a stellar career in the game, having played for the Newcastle Jets, Sydney and Wellington, as well as a number of overseas clubs including Leeds United. Joel also won the A-League’s Most Valuable Player Award and its Golden Boot in 2008.
Joel said “A career after football was in my mind for some years and I was very attracted to Aussie’s great name in the market, as it is the leader in the mortgage broking industry. A mate of mine Luke Torossian is the principal of Aussie Engadine and he has briefed me about the industry and how Aussie helps its customers find the right mortgages for their personal and financial situations.”
Joel has just completed an intensive three week mortgage broking course to become fully accredited with a Diploma of Financial Services, after helping wife Bianca (who became qualified last year as a broker) for several months at The Junction outlet in administration and office management.
Aussie’s training program, which recently won the Best Career Development Program at the 2015 Asia-Pacific Banking & Finance Magazine Awards, is designed to equip Aussie brokers with the knowledge and training they need to meet any customer’s needs and aspirations.
Executive Chairman of Aussie, Mr John Symond AM, said “I am delighted that Joel has joined us as we continue to expand our operations. I have followed his stellar career for many years and believe he will bring his commitment, passion and dedication to the Aussie team and his customers.
“We are very proud of our training and development programs because they allow people with or without financial services experience to launch into a new career in a fast growing industry, which now provides more than 50 per cent of all home loans in Australia,” Mr Symond added.
Joel said “The name Aussie is an automatic attraction for our customers, and we are finding that many of the new customers we are now helping in Newcastle are increasingly coming from referrals from our existing customers.
“We have a great mix of customers at The Junction, from first time buyers to investors and many refinancers looking to take advantage of these current record low interest rates, and this is providing us with great impetus to our business,” Joel added.
Aussie offers its brokers an extensive range of training and development programs, including a Cert IV in Finance & Mortgage Broking, an accredited Diploma of Financial Services, a free two-year accredited mentoring program, online Learning Portal and an extensive year-round calendar of educational events where best practice is shared from top brokers and professionals within the industry.
“We are always looking for motivated, dynamic individuals like Joel to join Aussie, and we are keen to expand our network of mobile brokers and franchise stores nationally,” Mr Symond concluded.
