How do non-bank lenders raise funds for lending?
Non-bank lenders are not ‘authorised deposit-taking institutions’ and therefore are unable to rely on customer deposits to help fund home loans as banks do. Instead, they seek funding through the wholesale money market where large institutions invest in mortgages or through ‘securitisation’.
