The brave among us may even go a step further and decide to save a few bob by doing some tasks ourselves. Check out these great smartphone apps that could help you.
If you can’t consider selling, why not look at renovating to suit your needs and add value to your place at the same time? A few of us at Aussie were amazed to discover how many handy little renovation tools are available on your Smartphone – saving you some time and money. We compiled our favourites for both iPhone and Android.
For Inspiration while planning your reno, we loved Dream Home (iPhone) for 99c, Houzz Interior Designs (iPhone) or Home architecture and Design (Android) for free. They contain tonnes of fab ideas and photos to get your creative juices flowing!
Once you are ready to really start planning, we loved Sun Seeker 3D Augmented Reality Viewer (iPhone only) for $5.49 which we mentioned last week. Magic Plan on iPhone (free) measures your room and draws a floor plan using your camera – you can save the image in jpeg, PDF or DXF. Android versions of this are Partometer Camera Measure for $2.79 (you can also measure furniture to see if it will fit) and Telemeter Total Station (free) where you can calculate area and volume – great if you need to tile the kitchen. Handy Construction Calculator ($7.76) on Android has 63 useful calculators to suit most building projects.
Home Design 3D ($8.49) on IPhone helps you draw rooms and add furniture, while Udesignit on Android is available in 3D ($4.92) and the demo version for free. There’s no furniture option on these. Android also has Udesignit Garage to create your perfect shed.
When it comes to painting Dulux Mycolour (iPhone) is free. If you like a friend’s paintwork, or just see a colour you like, snap a pic and the app will match to a Dulux paint colour. The closest we could find with Android is an American App called ColorSnap by paint brand Sherwinn Williams. It gives you a nice matching palette so even if you can’t get the exact brand here in Australia, you have a starting point. Colorchange on iPhone ($2.99) lets you change the colour of your walls so you can see how that new colour will look.
Finally Multi Spirit Level (iphone) and Spirit Level Plus on Android are both free and ideal if you just want to install a couple of floating shelves for now.
