Can you feel it? Summer is on its way and before we know it we’ll be up to our armpits in 35 degree days. That means it’s time to start thinking about your fire safety evacuation plan, don’t you agree?
Communities all around this big, beautiful land have been affected by horrific fires in recent years. The danger from fires to property and lives isn’t exclusive to country dwellers either, there’s hundreds of suburbs in Australia that are close to grass, bushland or parkland and the reality is all homes, whether they be apartments or houses need to prepare for the worst.
All this means you’ll need a fire safety evacuation plan even if you live smack bang in the middle of the city.
This can be a fun thing to do as a family, so get the kids involved in the planning. Not only will they enjoy it, they’ll also learn crucial fire safety skills!
If you’ve been following these Take Action Now! blog posts, you’ll realise I’m a big fan of lists. So, this October, join me in ticking off the things that’ll make your household fire ready.
Here’s our plan of attack:
Week 1 – Assemble your fire ready kit
Week 2 – Make your fire escape plan
Week 3 – Practise your fire escape plan
Week 4 – Get your home fire ready
I’d love to see some photos of your fire kits and fire escape plans, so share them on our Facebook page. We want to inspire other Aussies to prepare their own kits – the more photos and advice, the better.
