Let’s face it too often we leave packing to the night before (and sometimes the morning of) and when we do, we risk forgetting something major. I’m going to avoid that this year by writing a list of things to pack and making the effort to check it twice – this year I’m having the best summer holiday ever!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year and no, I don’t mean Christmas – I’m excited because for me, the most wonderful time of year is summer.
Bring on the sun, a tan, a coconut filled with deliciousness and most importantly room service at the Denarau Island resort I booked way back in winter (insert grin of satisfaction here).
Now if you’re like me and you anticipate the summer holidays like the arrival of the dessert menu after dinner then you want to ensure your trip is as stress free as possible – this is a holiday after all. Searching for your bikini in a panic only to realise you left it on your bed back home in Sydney is not going to make your 10 day Fiji getaway a fun one (I speak from experience).
Some of my mates swear by smartphone apps like TripList (which has a free and paid add ons) or Packing Pro (paid only). However I’m old school and love the tangible experience of physically writing out a list. But if you must have a holiday app I highly recommend you download a free countdown app. It’ll get you excited before departure and you can have added fun making those around you jealous of your impending tropical island getaway *cue evil laugh*.
So avoid the panic, learn to pack like a boss and don’t forget your togs because to quote Cliff Richard – we’re going on a summer holiday!
Here’s how I’m going to tackle packing like a pro:
Step 1 – Brainstorm a must bring list
Step 2 – Check your bags (literally)
Step 3 – Sort your medication situation
Step 4 – Plan your outfits and strategise your laundry
Step 5 – Time for Tetris (let the packing commence!)
Step 6 – To carry or not to carry
Download the packing for your summer holiday checklist to take action now! If you start this weekend you’ll be perfectly poised and prepared to jet off to your own tropical getaway in a few weeks time.
