Moving into your new home can be complicated, but don’t forget to think ahead to your first night in your new home. This is where taking the effort to pack a ‘first night’ box pays dividends. It should contain the bare minimum of what you would need to eat, shower and sleep.
A first night box could contain:
After working up a sweat carting boxes and manoeuvring furniture, you are going to want a shower.
- Overnight toiletries
You will need these once you are ready to wash off the mess from the move.
- Change of clothes
Getting out of your moving gear will be high on your priority list. Keep it simple and keep it comfy.
- Toilet paper
Stash some rolls in your first night box and you will thank yourself later.
Often the first piece of furniture you will put back together will be the bed and once that has been constructed, crashing out on it will be very tempting.
- Disposable cutlery and paper plates/cups
This is recommended over using regular crockery. After a long move who wants to deal with washing up?
- Phone chargers, TV cables and remote
Phone chargers are a given but when you are winding down, TV is a comfort that will help you feel settled.
It’s also important to tailor the essentials according to your situation. If you have pets remember to pack a first night box for them that includes food, bedding and toys. If you have children, you could even enlist them to pack their own.
Like all major events being prepared is key and will make the transition from one home to another a lot smoother. Just be sure to remember the toilet paper!
