Our 25th Anniversary ‘Memories of Home’ competition has come to a close. With nearly 2,000 entries and almost 6,000 votes, it was a hotly contested $25,000 grand prize.
Before we announce the winner, we would like to thank you for joining the celebration. Your memories reminded us of how far we’ve come (if not just in the fashion stakes), they made us laugh – and sometimes cry – but most importantly, they helped us get to know you just a little bit better.
So, here’s our winner and finalists. It turns out their precious memories have never been worth so much!
“This photo was taken in my Nan and Grandad’s garden in Liverpool, UK. They were both keen gardeners and always had the sweetest smelling red roses. We didn’t live close by, so it was always a family celebration when we were able to visit then and stay with them!”
It was maybe 1988 and we were trying to do the moonwalk. The first photo was our mum’s favourite photo and we recreated it for her 60th.
“In 1990 Mr Squiggle was one of the children’s favourite TV shows. In the original photo, our eldest son decided to tape pencils to his brother and sister’s noses to imitate their most loved TV character. Years later we’ve recreated this happy family memory”
“Fancy dress! Our mother thought it would be a good idea to dress my sister in a pack of smokes….this wouldn’t happen in today’s society.”
A family photo of the brothers after the first time all three boys went to Moomba. Mum and dad couldn’t afford to buy showbags but the boys were allowed one sweet each. P managed to make his fairy floss last the longest.
