How do you choose your first home?
Choosing your property itself is without question the most exciting and vital part of the journey towards your first home, but it’s also the one filled with the most intangibles and emotional factors. It’s a decision only you or your family can make, but we can help make sure your finances are sorted to give you more breathing room to make your decision. See our home loan advice about the Purchasing Process before you get started.
If you’re in the market for your first home, you’re probably asking yourself, where should I buy? The first and most obvious answer is, where you can afford to buy. Most of us know the real-estate cliche, “Location, location, location!” That means the value of a home, no matter how nice it is, is usually based on where it’s situated – whether in an up-and-coming suburb, along a good rail line or in a beautiful rural area.
But what to look for in a suburb really depends on your and your family’s needs. Will it be schools, transport, amenities and shops, or peace and quiet, bush walks and nice scenery? Be clear on what things are really important for your day-to-day life right now, and what location features you’d be happy to consider for your next home. Many first home buyers scour property reports daily to keep track of home prices and geek out on market fluctuations. Read our Location Research fact sheet for more information.

"Scott has great integrity. I have done two transactions with him and he was wonderful. The first time he stepped me through the process, explained things before they occurred and did all the heavy lifting. The second occasion when I was looking for another investment property I went to him for mortgage advice which he provided with respect and alliance."
