Similarly to Sydney, a lot of people are worried about affordability in Melbourne. Our Most Affordable Suburbs report shows that there are still desirable pockets close to the city centre that are reasonably priced; you just need to know where to look!
Hume and Brimbank councils feature on the list and have the most affordable suburbs for houses and apartments within 20kms of Melbourne’s CBD. Coolaroo came out on top with a median house price of $296,000.
Maribyrnong council is the most affordable for houses within 10kms of the CBD, with Braybrook topping the list with a median price tag of $451,000.
Within 20kms of Melbourne, Albion has the most affordable apartments with a median value of $235,000. It’s also the only suburb within 20kms to have a median unit value under $250,000.
Many of the most affordable suburbs for units close to the city are in Maribyrnong council, but Carlton emerged as the most affordable with a median price of $315,000.
